James Trammell is entering his 3rd year as the Director of Bands at Valley Mills ISD and 7th year teaching overall.

Mr. Trammell graduated high school in 2014 from John Tyler High School in Tyler, Texas. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. He studied as Bassoonist with Dr. Lee Goodhew & Trombone with Dr. Deb Scott. He studied conducting with Mr. Fred J. Allen, Dr. David Campo, & Dr. Tamey Anglley. He has had the fortunate opportunity to march in the 2015 Macy's Day Parade.

Trammell began his teaching career as the Assistant Band Director at Timpson ISD in 2019. While in Timpson, he helped lead the Timpson High School Band to two State Military Marching Silver Medals and a Bronze Medal. He also led the Jr. High band to several a sweepstakes award and helped in the continuation of a true Junior High Band.

In 2023, Trammell left Timpson for Valley Mills with the difficult task of transitioning from teaching the military style to the corps style marching. Since, the high school band has made a trip to the Area D marching contest finals, the State 2A Marching band finals, and won 5th place in the State Marching Finals. The middle school band has also earned a sweepstakes and grown tremendously. Trammell is also a member of TMEA, TBA, and an alumnus of the Gamma Phi Chapter of the Kappa Kappa Psi music fraternity where he served as treasurer for two years.

Trammell's immediate family lives in Tyler, TX where he has 3 brothers and a sister. He is an active tennis player, loves NCAA basketball, and loves to play his trombone in various jazz bands and church gigs when he can.
