Physical Education/Physical
Activity
Valley Mills ISD physical education programs strive to
meet national standards, fulfill state requirements and
provide quality physical education. These programs should
encourage children to develop lifelong physical activity
practices and healthy lifestyle choices and ensure physical
education integrates with other components of a coordinated
school health program.
In accordance with policies at EHAB and EHAC the district
will ensure that students in elementary school engage in
at least 30 minutes of physical education per day or 135
minutes per week.
The district offers 45 minutes per day to students in
middle or junior high school to meet district physical
education requirements for these grades. For additional
information on the district's requirements and programs
regarding elementary, middle, and junior high school student
physical education activity requirements, please see the
principal. (see page 31 Student Handbook)
Physical
education programs are the cornerstone of an active lifestyle
for all students. Valley Mills ISD school
programs provide the skills, knowledge and attitudes that
help students stay active for a lifetime. Today, the physical
education programs are focusing on helping students learn
how to live healthy and physically active lives. It teaches
students to value physical activity for its positive contributions
to their health, emotional and social well-being. Valley
Mills ISD PE is based on National Association for Sports
and Physical Education (NASPE) best
practices.
New
PE is more student friendly, helping students create
individualized PE activities for different fitness levels.
Valley Mills ISD PE programs are TEKS-based.
